The same process can be applied in other carbon dioxide dominated atmospheres such as Mars and Venus,” said UC Davis graduate student Zhou Lu, working with professors in the Departments of Chemistry and of Earth and Planetary Sciences.

Zhou used a vacuum ultraviolet laser to irradiate CO2 in the laboratory. Vacuum ultraviolet light has a wavelength below 200 nanmoeters and is absorbed by air under natural conditions.

This one-step process could be happening right now in the Earth’s atmosphere as carbon dioxide increases in the region of the upper atmosphere where high energy vacuum ultraviolet light from the Sun hits Earth or even other planets.

I was reading todays CBC headlines and saw this article

The design and performance of the first vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) laser-based angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) system are described. The VUV laser with a photon energy of 6.994 eV and bandwidth of 0.26 meV is achieved from the second harmonic generation using a novel nonlinear optical crystal KBe2BO3F2. The new VUV laser-based ARPES system exhibits superior performance, including superhigh energy resolution better than 1 meV, high momentum resolution, superhigh photon flux, and much enhanced bulk sensitivity, which are demonstrated from measurements on a typical Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 high temperature superconductor. Issues and further development related to the VUV laser-based photoemission technique are discussed.

they are assuming it’s going to burn up in the atmosphere, and they are assuming it’s earth space debris, yet in the notes it says it’s not orbiting earth like a satellite would, even though they think it’s a satellite?  what if it’s a UFO that’s come to visit Earth? hmmmm only time will tell, because so far they haven’t figured out what it is…

WT1190F (9U01FF6, UDA34A3, or UW8551D) is a small temporary satellite of the Earth, thought to be space junk,[3] that will impact the Earth on November 13, 2015. The time of impact is now known with an accuracy of about 4 seconds.[4] It was first discovered on February 18, 2013 by the Catalina Sky Survey.[2][5] It was then lost, and reacquired on November 29, 2013. WT1190F has been orbiting the Earth as a temporary satellite since mid 2009 (named as UWAIS), if not longer. While it has not been positively identified with any known artificial satellites, its estimated density of 0.1 g/cm³ is much lower than would be expected of a natural object. Hence, European Space Agency astronomers have concluded that the object is likely a fuel tank of some sort.[2][5]

After more observations, ESA astronomers have determined that the object will impact the Earth on November 13, 2015 at approximately 06:20 UTC (11:50 local time), south of Sri Lanka.[2][5] Due to its small size, it is expected that most or all of the object will burn up in the atmosphere before impacting, but will be visible as a bright daytime fireball.[2][5]
